A quiet afternoon in Simi Valley turned into a tragedy on Tuesday when an 89 year old woman was struck and killed by a vehicle.
The Simi Valley Police Department responded to the scene on Cochran Street, just east of Stearns Street, at approximately 4:40 p.m. following reports of the collision.
Upon arrival, officers and personnel from the Ventura County Fire Department located the victim, who had sustained life threatening injuries.
Despite immediate medical attention, the elderly woman was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.
Initial reports from the preliminary investigation suggest the woman was walking south across Cochran Street when she was hit by a vehicle traveling eastbound.
The driver involved in the fatal incident remained at the scene and cooperated fully with law enforcement officers during the initial investigation.
Authorities have noted that there is currently no evidence to indicate that drugs or alcohol played a role in this devastating crash.
The identity of the 89 year old victim is currently being withheld while officials work to notify her next of kin.
Senior Officer Cameron Schroeck is now leading the formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The Simi Valley Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who possesses surveillance video to come forward.
