A high-speed police pursuit in Chicago’s Portage Park neighborhood concluded with a dramatic collision early Tuesday morning when a stolen vehicle crashed into a local business. The incident, which took place at approximately 4:30 a.m. on April 16, resulted in the apprehension of four suspects and the recovery of several illegal firearms.

Surveillance footage from the area captured the moments leading up to the crash. A black Kia, which had been reported stolen, was seen traveling at a high rate of speed while attempting to evade Chicago Police Department officers. As the driver approached the intersection near the City News Cafe, they appeared to lose control of the vehicle. The car jumped the curb and smashed into the storefront, sending glass and debris flying into the street and the interior of the cafe.

Law enforcement officials reported that four individuals were inside the vehicle during the pursuit. The group included a 17-year-old male and three young adults aged 22, 23, and 26. Immediately following the impact, two of the occupants were taken into custody by officers who were close behind. The other two suspects attempted to flee the scene on foot but were quickly located and detained by responding units.

All four suspects were treated for minor injuries sustained during the collision. Upon searching the wreckage of the Kia, officers discovered and seized three firearms. The suspects are currently awaiting formal charges as detectives continue their investigation into the theft and the subsequent flight from police.

The City News Cafe suffered significant structural damage to its exterior and entrance. However, because the crash occurred well before business hours, no employees or patrons were present, and no injuries were reported among the public. Demonstrating resilience, the cafe owners managed to clear the debris and reopen for service later that same day. Local residents have expressed concern over the frequency of vehicle thefts and the dangers posed by high-speed chases in residential and commercial corridors.
