The religious landscape of the United States is shifting significantly as mosque construction hits record highs across the nation.
Data from the American Mosque Survey indicates that the number of mosques in the country has jumped from only 100 in 1970 to nearly 3,000 today.
This represent an massive 2,700 percent increase in just a few decades according to recent demographic reports.
Between 2010 and 2020 alone the number of Islamic houses of worship grew by 31 percent.
For the first time in American history there are now more mosques than synagogues in the United States.
While many temples and traditional religious centers are closing their doors mosque construction is moving at a rate of approximately one new location every single week.
New York currently leads the nation with over 340 mosques while California follows closely behind with more than 300 established locations.
Texas and Florida are also seeing rapid growth as these centers expand from major urban hubs into suburban neighborhoods.
The expansion often includes more than just prayer halls with over 300 Islamic schools now operating alongside these congregations.
Christian churches remain the largest religious presence by far with approximately 300,000 congregations currently active across the fifty states.
However if the current growth rate continues experts suggest the country could reach the 4,000 mosque milestone in the very near future.
