Hero 6th graders save classmates and stop school bus from crashing after driver passes out

A group of middle school students in Hancock County, Mississippi, is being celebrated for their remarkable bravery and quick thinking.

The students successfully prevented a school bus crash after their driver, Leah Taylor, experienced a sudden medical emergency while transporting children home.

The incident occurred shortly after the bus departed Hancock Middle School with approximately 40 students on board.

As the vehicle traveled along a busy four-lane highway, the 46-year-old driver suffered an asthma attack and lost consciousness.

Twelve-year-old Jackson Casnave, who was seated directly behind the driver, immediately recognized the danger when the bus began to swerve.

He moved quickly to grab the steering wheel, effectively taking control of the vehicle to keep it on the road.

Simultaneously, fellow sixth grader Darrius Clark rushed to assist by applying the brakes.

Working in tandem, the students managed to guide the bus safely onto the median before bringing it to a complete stop.

Other students played vital roles in the emergency response as well.

Kayleigh Clark, a 13-year-old student, moved to the front of the bus to contact 911, despite the chaotic environment and the sound of panicked classmates.

Destiny Cornelius, an eighth grader, provided medical assistance by administering the driver’s nebulizer.

Meanwhile, 13-year-old McKenzy Finch supported the driver’s head and communicated the situation to the school district’s transportation department via phone.

Security footage captured the students working together with impressive composure during the high-stakes situation.

Their collective efforts ensured that no injuries occurred, and the driver has since made a full recovery.

Leah Taylor expressed deep gratitude toward the students, crediting them with saving her life and the lives of everyone on the bus.

She noted that their swift intervention was the deciding factor in avoiding a catastrophic accident.

The school community honored the students during a special pep rally to recognize their courage.

Principal Dr. Melissa Saucier praised the group for their initiative, noting that they did not hesitate to step up when the situation demanded immediate action.
