A major traffic incident has completely shut down a portion of Kanan Dume Road following a violent rollover crash that left a vehicle mangled and live power lines draped across the pavement.

The collision occurred mid-day on Monday, April 27, 2026, near the tunnels south of Mulholland Highway.

Eyewitnesses report that a sports car traveling at a high rate of speed slammed into a massive wooden electrical pole, snapping it in half and causing the vehicle to flip multiple times.

The impact was so severe that the vehicle was left nearly unrecognizable.

Emergency crews from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived to find the roadway blocked by the wreckage and downed wires.

Rescuers worked quickly to extricate the occupants; at least one victim was seriously injured and airlifted by helicopter to Los Robles Hospital for trauma care.

A second individual was also reported to have sustained serious injuries in the wreck.

As of Tuesday morning, April 28, 2026, Kanan Dume Road has officially reopened to all traffic.

However, the scene remained a major bottleneck for nearly 20 hours as Southern California Edison and Verizon crews worked through the night to replace the snapped pole and safely remove the live electrical lines.

During the closure, traffic was diverted to Latigo Canyon Road and Malibu Canyon Road, causing significant delays across the canyon.

While power has been restored to the immediate area, CHP investigators remain on-site as they work to determine if mechanical failure or high speed was the primary factor in the crash.
