Federal authorities have arrested a 22-year-old United States Army soldier stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, following allegations that he made violent, antisemitic threats online. Jakob Marcoulier was taken into custody last week after investigators uncovered disturbing audio recordings on the messaging platform Discord.

The FBI’s National Threat Operations Center initiated the investigation after receiving a tip regarding a user identified as el.bostino. Prosecutors allege that the recordings captured Marcoulier detailing plans to commit a mass shooting at a synagogue.

In the recorded statements, the soldier explicitly described his intent to enter a house of worship armed with an assault rifle and high-capacity magazines. He further outlined his desire to target Jewish individuals, framing the violence as a goal for his future.

The suspect allegedly claimed he would carry out the attack after returning from an overseas deployment. He also expressed a desire to see his actions reported in the news, suggesting a premeditated intent to gain notoriety through violence.

Beyond the specific threats against a synagogue, the suspect reportedly made comments regarding the protection of white youth through lethal force. These statements have drawn significant condemnation from federal officials who emphasize the importance of religious freedom.

United States Attorney Zachary A. Keller stated that threats against Jewish Americans are direct attacks on the religious liberties guaranteed to all citizens. The Department of Justice remains committed to investigating and prosecuting such instances of hate-motivated extremism.

Discord confirmed that it has removed the user from its platform for violating policies against hateful conduct. The company stated that it proactively cooperates with law enforcement agencies when users pose an imminent risk to public safety.

Marcoulier currently faces a federal charge of transmitting a threat in interstate commerce. If convicted, he could face up to five years in federal prison for his alleged actions.

The case highlights the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in monitoring extremist rhetoric within digital gaming and social spaces. Authorities continue to urge the public to report suspicious activity that could indicate potential threats to community safety.
