The wait is finally over for Ventura County families as kidSTREAM Children’s Museum officially announced its grand opening for May 21, 2026.

This milestone fulfills a years-long promise to bring a world-class, hands-on learning center to the heart of the region. Located at the site of the former Camarillo Public Library, the new 30,000-square-foot campus is purpose-built for the more than 200,000 children growing up in the 805 area.

The museum focuses on STREAM education, which stands for Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math. It provides a permanent home for exploration in a county where these specialized resources were previously difficult to access for many families.

The museum features 21,000 square feet of interactive indoor and outdoor exhibits designed to reflect the unique local landscape and regional industries.

In the outdoor Channel Islands exhibit, children can participate in a fossil dig to excavate replicas of pygmy mammoth bones.

The agricultural exhibit includes an edible garden with berries and herbs that honor Ventura County’s deep farming roots. Inside, the STREAM gallery and makerspace provide an engineering design lab where kids can tackle building challenges using everyday materials.

This achievement was made possible by a massive community effort and a landmark $2 million combined donation from Amgen and the Amgen Foundation. Major support also came from Driscoll’s and the Gene Haas Foundation.

The grand opening on May 21st will begin with a private morning ceremony for founding partners followed by a public opening in the early afternoon for families and young explorers.

To mark the occasion, kidSTREAM is releasing a limited number of Early Explorer Memberships which include exclusive perks like soft opening invitations.

General memberships will also go on sale the day of the opening. Board Chair Bryan Yee stated that this is more than a ribbon-cutting, calling it a promise kept to the children of the community.
