If you’re riding an e-moto in Camarillo, you need to watch where you’re going because the police are no longer just giving warnings.

The Camarillo Police Department just wrapped up a week of heavy enforcement, and they are now actively impounding high-powered electric motorcycles caught in city parks, on sidewalks, or on public roads.

The financial hit for these violations is massive. Between towing and daily storage rates, owners are reporting that it can cost around $1,000 for just a 48-hour stay in the impound lot.

This figure doesn’t even include the actual traffic citations which often involve unlicensed operation or lack of registration, pushing the total cost of a single ride well into the thousands.

Deputies with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office note that while legal Class 1, 2, and 3 e-bikes are allowed on most roads, e-motos (like Sur-Rons, Talarias, and Segways) are often unclassified or out-of-spec for street use.

These high-powered bikes are viewed as a major safety risk to pedestrians and traditional cyclists.

Following the recent wave of tragedies across Ventura County involving motorized bikes, the city is making it clear they are prioritizing public safety over convenience.
