The Port of Hueneme has officially secured a massive $11.25 million federal payday, marking a major turning point for the local economy.

On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, members of California’s Congressional delegation announced the funding through the Port Infrastructure Development Program, managed by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

This isn't just about general maintenance as the investment is designed to future-proof the 805’s trade gateway.

The funds will be used to rehabilitate an essential wharf and deepen berths to support the larger vessels now required for global trade.

Over the last decade, trade volume at the port has skyrocketed by 80%, moving over $15.8 billion in goods annually and pumping $2.8 billion into the local economy.

This cash injection also fuels the port's aggressive push toward becoming the nation’s first zero-emission port.

Beyond infrastructure, the port is already integrating hybrid electric cranes to modernize cargo handling and shore power expansion to allow ships to plug in rather than idle, which drastically reduces local emissions.

Port CEO noted the project will create a wave of high-paying jobs in logistics and maritime tech.

With Naval Base Ventura County next door ramping up its permanent testing network for unmanned undersea and surface platforms, the Port of Hueneme is solidifying its position as a global powerhouse for both trade and maritime innovation.
