A Bakersfield Uber driver is officially heading to trial following a disturbing sexual assault investigation in Camarillo. Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced that 36-year-old Simranjit Singh Sekhon has been held to answer on felony charges of kidnapping to commit rape and the rape of an unconscious person.

The ruling came after a preliminary hearing on April 15, 2026, where a judge reviewed evidence and testimony from both the victim and investigators.

The court determined there was enough evidence to move forward with the charges, along with special allegations that Sekhon exploited a position of trust and targeted a particularly vulnerable victim.

The assault reportedly took place in the early hours of November 27, 2025. Authorities say Sekhon picked up an intoxicated woman outside a Thousand Oaks bar around 1:00 a.m. for a scheduled trip to her home in Camarillo.

While the victim fell asleep during the transit, Sekhon allegedly failed to end the trip at her residence. Instead, investigators claim he continued to drive the unconscious woman around Camarillo, where the sexual assault occurred.

Sekhon was tracked down and arrested by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office in Los Angeles on December 15, 2025. He is currently out of custody after posting a $500,000 bond and is scheduled for arraignment on April 29, 2026.
