🏚️ What Police Found
Officers responded to a 911 call about screams on the south side of Austin. They found a woman half naked, handcuffed to a metal exercise stand, and in critical condition. Firefighters cut through restraints to free her.
👥 Who’s Accused
Five suspects were arrested: Michelle Garcia, 51, Crystal Garcia, 21, Mache Carney, 32, Juan Pablo Castro, 30, and Maynard Lefevers, 21. All face charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, injury to the elderly or disabled, and unlawful restraint. Each is held on a bond of 305000 dollars.
📖 What the Victim Said
She said the group had been friends but decided they did not like her anymore, then kept her chained outside, beat her, and fed her one meal a day. She said she was shot with a BB gun and left half naked in near freezing temperatures as punishment.
⚕️ The Extent of the Abuse
Doctors reported open wounds, severe wrist swelling, tissue loss in hands and feet, facial trauma, and BB pellets embedded in her skin, including one in her right eye. Investigators said she was malnourished and deeply traumatized.
🚨 What the Suspects Allegedly Admitted
Castro told police he shot her with a rifle style BB gun because he did not want to touch her and admitted he chased her around the yard after work, saying he hated her. A child in the home told investigators his dad shot the woman when she was bad and that his mom watched.
👮 What Happens Next
All five are scheduled to appear in court between November 18 and December 15. Two small children found in the home are now in state custody. Police said the investigation is ongoing and more charges may follow.
🧠 The Bottom Line
This is one of the worst abuse cases Austin has seen in years. The woman is now safe and receiving care, but the case raises hard questions about how such abuse went unnoticed.
