Britney Spears Checks into Rehab After Ventura County DUI

Pop icon Britney Spears has voluntarily checked herself into a substance abuse treatment facility this week, following a highly publicized DUI arrest in Ventura County.
The move comes roughly a month after a frightening incident on March 5, 2026, when California Highway Patrol (CHP) received reports of a BMW driving "fast and erratically" on the U.S. 101 near the Los Angeles County line. After failing field sobriety tests at the scene, the 44-year-old singer was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs.
In a rare move, Spears’ own representatives didn't mince words, calling the incident "completely inexcusable" and expressing hope that this would be the "first step in long overdue change." Sources close to the star told TMZ that she hit "rock bottom" and that the decision to enter rehab was partially influenced by the pending legal case, with the goal of showing the court she is taking her recovery seriously.
The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the file to decide on formal charges. Spears is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on May 4, 2026.
After the landmark 2021 termination of her 13-year conservatorship, fans are torn. While many are rallying behind the "Baby One More Time" singer as she seeks help, others worry that this latest brush with the law signifies a deeper spiral. For now, Spears remains in a 30-day program with the support of her two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, as she attempts to reclaim her well-being.
