Baby Killed By Stray Bullet In NYC Daylight Shooting Sparks Massive Manhunt

A 7 month old baby girl is dead after being struck by a stray bullet during a broad daylight shooting in Brooklyn, sending shockwaves through New York City and triggering an urgent police manhunt.

The tragedy unfolded on April 1, 2026, around 1:20 PM, as the infant’s parents pushed her stroller near Humboldt and Moore Streets in Williamsburg. Police say two suspects riding a moped suddenly opened fire into a crowd before speeding away.

Authorities believe the baby was not the intended target.

Witnesses described pure chaos. One bystander said the child’s mother ran into a nearby store trying to protect her daughter, only to realize the baby had been shot when she saw blood inside the stroller.

Emergency crews rushed the infant to Woodhull Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly before 2 PM.

Witnesses at the hospital described heartbreaking scenes as doctors tried to save the child. One person recalled hearing the mother desperately beg for her baby to wake up before learning the devastating news.

Police say the suspects crashed their moped just blocks away while trying to escape. One suspect was taken to a hospital and is now considered a person of interest, though no charges have been announced. The second suspect remains on the run.

Investigators released surveillance images showing the suspected shooter firing from the back of the moving moped while the driver accelerated away.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the shooting may be gang related and confirmed detectives are working to determine who the intended target was. Officers recovered shell casings and the abandoned moped as evidence.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the killing a heartbreaking tragedy and said city officials are focused on supporting the family and finding those responsible.

Police say the search includes detectives, tracking units, and public tips as pressure builds to make an arrest in a case that has outraged residents.

The killing has renewed concerns about random gun violence in crowded neighborhoods and the risks stray bullets pose to innocent bystanders.

For now, a family is left grieving, a suspect remains free, and a city is demanding answers.
