Black Man Ammarin Tunstall Dragged Across Pavement By Cops While Unresponsive Then Dies In Custody

A high-profile investigation is underway in Alabama after a 35 year old Black man died shortly after a violent encounter with the Monroeville Police Department. Ammarin Tunstall was pronounced dead at a local hospital just hours after being taken into custody, sparking immediate demands for transparency and justice from his family and the community.
The incident began when officers responded to a call involving Tunstall, who witnesses and family members say was in a state of distress. Cell phone footage circulating on social media shows a deeply disturbing scene where an unresponsive Tunstall is being dragged across the pavement by officers. Additional video segments reportedly show him being thrown face-down into the back of a patrol car. Family members who witnessed the arrest claim that Tunstall was already on his knees when he was tased and pepper-sprayed multiple times by the responding officers.
Following the encounter, Tunstall was transported to the hospital where he later died. His body has been released to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an official autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. While the police department has not released a formal statement detailing their version of the struggle, the case has been handed over to the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
Local activists and civil rights groups are calling for the immediate release of all body camera and dash camera footage from the incident. The family’s legal representatives maintain that the level of force used was excessive, especially considering Tunstall appeared to be suffering from a medical or mental health crisis at the time of the arrest.
Once the SBI completes its independent investigation, the findings will be submitted to the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office. The DA will then decide whether to present the case to a grand jury for potential criminal charges against the officers involved. For now, the community remains on edge as they wait for the results of the autopsy and the official report on the final moments of Ammarin Tunstall’s life.
