Chicago Police Seek Persons of Interest in Fatal Assault of Alexander Kazanowski

Chicago authorities are continuing their investigation into the death of 25-year-old Alexander Kazanowski, a new father and local entrepreneur who succumbed to injuries following an assault in the Avondale neighborhood.

Kazanowski died on March 28, 2026, four days after he was reportedly attacked outside the Tune Up Bar on the city's Northwest Side. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the cause of death was blunt force head trauma.

Surveillance footage from the night of March 24 shows four individuals entering the establishment shortly before the incident occurred. The Chicago Police Department has identified these individuals as persons of interest in the ongoing case.

The group consists of three Black men and one woman. Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying these individuals to clarify their roles in the altercation that led to Kazanowski’s death.

Witnesses indicate that an altercation began inside the bar. Kazanowski was subsequently removed from the premises, where the physical confrontation escalated on the sidewalk, leading to the fatal head injuries.

Kazanowski was well-known in the local community as a former vintage shop owner. Family members have expressed profound grief over the loss of the young father, whose child was born only recently.

The incident has sparked renewed debate over public safety and violent crime in Chicago. As the city grapples with persistent safety challenges, residents are calling for increased police presence and swifter judicial action.

On social media, the case has garnered significant attention. Users are discussing demographic patterns in crime statistics and questioning the consistency of media coverage in high-profile urban incidents.

The administration of President Donald Trump has previously emphasized the need for federal support to address violent crime in major metropolitan areas like Chicago.

Local community leaders are urging anyone with information regarding the four persons of interest to contact Area Five detectives. The investigation remains active as authorities review additional forensic evidence.

Funeral arrangements for Kazanowski are currently pending. Police have not yet announced any formal charges or arrests in connection with the fatal assault.
