A routine thrift store trip turned violent in Kentucky when police say a woman went on a sudden knife attack inside a Goodwill, stabbing and biting another shopper before telling officers the victim “got what she came for.”
Authorities identified the suspect as Madison Hinchey, 30, who was arrested after the chaotic April 21 incident at a Goodwill store in Murray, Kentucky.
Police say Hinchey stormed into the store around 1:35 p.m., pulled a large knife from her purse, and began chasing a woman through aisles of secondhand clothing. The pursuit reportedly spilled into a loading dock area, where the situation escalated into a brutal confrontation.
According to investigators, Hinchey stabbed the victim once in the chest and then bit her during the struggle. When a store employee tried to intervene, she allegedly struck them with a metal snow shovel.
By the time officers arrived, police say employees were already trying to restrain Hinchey as the scene descended into chaos.
After being taken into custody, Hinchey allegedly made a chilling remark to officers, saying the victim “got what she came for,” according to police statements.
The victim was airlifted to a hospital in Nashville for emergency treatment. Her current condition has not been publicly released.
Officials have not confirmed any known connection between Hinchey and the victim, and investigators say the motive remains unclear.
Hinchey now faces multiple serious charges, including attempted murder, second-degree assault, and fourth-degree assault. She was booked into Calloway County Jail, where she remains held as the case moves forward.
The sudden outbreak of violence inside a busy retail store has raised concerns among locals, especially given how quickly a normal shopping environment turned into a life-threatening crime scene.
