Investigation Underway After Infant Fatally Shot in Brooklyn Drive-By

The New York Police Department is investigating a shooting that killed a seven-month-old infant in East Williamsburg on Wednesday afternoon. Kaori Patterson-Moore was struck while in a double stroller during what authorities describe as a gang-related drive-by shooting.
The mother, Lianna Charles-Moore, was walking with her two children when multiple gunshots were fired into a crowd. Reports indicate she initially mistook the sounds for fireworks before discovering her daughter had sustained a fatal head injury.
Police state that two individuals on a moped approached the scene and discharged several rounds toward a group of people. The suspects fled the area immediately, leading to a pursuit by responding officers.
One suspect was apprehended after crashing the moped approximately two blocks from the scene. Law enforcement personnel are currently conducting an intensive search for the second individual, who remains at large.
The victim’s two-year-old brother was also caught in the gunfire, sustaining a graze wound to his back. While his physical injuries are not life-threatening, the family stated he remains distressed by the event.
Family members described Kaori as a joyful infant who had recently begun to speak her first words. Her grandmother, a local teacher, reportedly collapsed at work upon receiving notification of the fatal incident.
Charles-Moore told the New York Post that a routine afternoon errand transformed into an unimaginable tragedy. The family is calling for justice while the NYPD Gang Squad leads the ongoing investigation.
The incident has sparked renewed concerns regarding street violence and the use of mopeds in criminal activity. This tragedy occurs amid a heightened focus on urban safety by federal and local officials.
The identity of the suspect in custody has not been released. Detectives continue to review surveillance footage to identify and locate the remaining shooter involved in the Brooklyn attack.
