A Frontier Airlines flight departing from Denver International Airport for Los Angeles was forced to abort its takeoff late Friday night following a fatal collision with a trespasser on the runway.

The Airbus A321 was accelerating when the individual, who had breached the airport's perimeter fence, entered the active runway area.

Thermal surveillance footage captured the moment of impact, which occurred shortly after the individual gained unauthorized access to the airfield.

Following the collision, the flight crew reported an engine fire and smoke within the cabin, prompting an immediate emergency response.

The pilots successfully brought the aircraft to a stop on the runway, and all 224 passengers and seven crew members were evacuated using emergency slides.

While no major injuries were reported among those on board, several individuals were transported to local hospitals for minor medical concerns related to the evacuation process.

Passengers described a chaotic scene, noting sparks and a loud noise near the wing followed by smoke filling the cabin.

The incident led to a temporary closure of the affected runway while emergency crews secured the scene and assisted the passengers.

The National Transportation Safety Board is currently coordinating with the Federal Aviation Administration and local law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation.

Officials are examining how the individual managed to bypass the airport's extensive perimeter security measures, which span approximately 36 miles.

Denver International Airport CEO Phil Washington expressed condolences regarding the tragedy, emphasizing that the facility is reviewing its security protocols.

While the perimeter fence remains intact, the airport is conducting a comprehensive analysis to determine if any procedural gaps allowed the breach to occur.

Transportation officials have condemned the act of trespassing on airport grounds, highlighting the extreme danger posed to both the public and aviation personnel.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to identify the deceased individual and clarify the sequence of events leading to the engine fire.

Runway operations at the airport have since returned to normal following the completion of the initial site investigation.

Frontier Airlines continues to cooperate with federal agencies to provide necessary data regarding the flight's performance during the aborted takeoff.
