NYC Baby Killed by Stray Bullet as Mom Pushes Stroller

A quiet afternoon in Brooklyn on April 1, 2026 turned into tragedy when a 7-month-old baby girl was fatally struck by a stray bullet while sitting in her stroller.

The heartbreaking moment her mother realized what happened was captured on security video inside a neighborhood bodega.

Police say Lianna Charles-Moore had rushed into the store in East Williamsburg with her two children after hearing what she initially believed were fireworks.

The sounds were actually gunshots fired by two suspects riding a moped who allegedly opened fire into a nearby crowd around 1:20 p.m.

Inside the store, the footage shows the mother comforting her 2-year-old son before checking on her infant daughter, Kaori.

Moments later, she reacts in shock, screaming and jumping in distress after discovering the baby had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Witnesses in the store appeared unaware of the situation until her reaction drew their attention.

“I was hugging my son, and then when I looked… my daughter was just there,” Charles-Moore said. “She was shot in the head. She was just bleeding.”

Bystanders quickly rushed to help as the baby was taken by ambulance to Woodhull Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 1:46 p.m. The toddler suffered a minor graze wound and was treated and released.

Investigators say the shooters fled on the moped but crashed into a car just blocks away.

One suspect was taken to a hospital and later identified as a person of interest, though initially connected to a separate domestic incident.

Authorities have launched an active search for the second suspect.

Police sources say the infant had just begun saying the word “mama” and had not yet learned to walk.

Surveillance images also showed evidence left behind at the scene, including the child’s blood-stained clothing.

The case has renewed concerns about stray gun violence in New York City and the risks posed by reckless shootings in crowded neighborhoods.

Officials say the investigation remains active as detectives work to identify all those responsible.
