New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was seen walking roughly six miles from New York City Hall to Gracie Mansion, stopping to talk with residents along the way.

The walk fulfilled a promise he made during his inauguration speech to remain visible and accessible to the public rather than staying inside government offices.

During the walk, Mamdani emphasized his approach to leadership, saying he wants a government that is “of New York, by New York, and for New York,” while engaging directly with people in neighborhoods across the city.

Supporters say the move shows an effort to stay connected with everyday New Yorkers, while critics argue symbolic gestures must be matched with policy results.

The mayor’s public walk comes as city leaders face ongoing debates over housing, public safety, and cost-of-living concerns across New York City.
