A late-night walk turned into a horrific scene in Oxnard this past Saturday, May 2, 2026, after a 51-year-old man was struck and killed by an SUV.

The tragedy occurred just before midnight on Wooley Road near Commercial Avenue, a stretch of road that local residents have recently flagged for dangerously low visibility at night.

According to Oxnard Police investigators, the victim was attempting to cross Wooley Road when he was hit by a westbound Ford Expedition.

The impact was so severe that the man was launched into the eastbound lanes. Despite the immediate response and life-saving efforts from first responders, the victim’s injuries were too extensive, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 21-year-old man, remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with the Oxnard Police Department's Traffic Business Unit.

While the investigation is ongoing, officials have stated that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

The victim’s name is currently being withheld as authorities work to notify his next of kin.

This incident marks another somber chapter for Wooley Road, following a similar fatal collision involving a bicyclist earlier this year, fueling growing community demands for improved street lighting and pedestrian safety measures.
