May is National Bicycle Safety Month, and the Simi Valley Police Department is hitting the streets with a clear message: look out for one another.
The statistics are a wake-up call. In 2023 alone, over 1,100 people were killed while riding bikes on U.S. roads. Simi Valley PD says they will be conducting special traffic operations all month long.
They aren’t just looking for bicyclists; they are targeting drivers who speed, make illegal turns, or fail to yield the right of way.
If you’re driving, California law requires you to give riders at least three feet of space when passing, and you should change lanes entirely if possible.
If you’re riding, the department is urging you to use lights at night and wear a helmet, regardless of your age.
Safety isn't just about following the rules; it’s about making sure everyone gets home alive.
