SoCal Doctor Accused of $5M Hospice Scam Showed Off Luxury Life

A Southern California psychiatrist accused of defrauding Medicare out of millions allegedly showcased a lavish lifestyle on social media while federal investigators built their case.

Dr. Gladwin Gill, 66, and his wife Amelou Gill were arrested during a federal operation targeting healthcare fraud.

Authorities claim the couple submitted $5.2 million in false Medicare claims for hospice services that were either medically unnecessary or never provided.

Federal prosecutors say the couple used the alleged proceeds to fund an upscale lifestyle.

Investigators claim the money paid for luxury vehicles, mortgage payments, travel, restaurants, and other personal expenses.

At the same time, Gill’s social media accounts reportedly featured photos with celebrities and public figures including Mario Lopez, George Clooney, George W. Bush, and chef Salt Bae.

In another post, Gill appeared at a Super Bowl event with sports agent Leigh Steinberg, smiling on the red carpet.

According to prosecutors, federal authorities had already been investigating Gill as early as 2022, even executing a search warrant that year.

Officials suggested the case did not move forward earlier because healthcare fraud enforcement priorities were different at the time.

The couple was arrested at their multi-million-dollar home in Covina, California, where agents reportedly forced entry through a secured gate.

Photos from the arrest showed luxury cars parked outside the property.

Online reactions to Gill’s posts have also drawn attention.

Some individuals accused him in comment sections of financial wrongdoing, though these claims remain allegations and have not been proven in court.

Prosecutors allege the couple also attempted to launder funds connected to the fraud scheme.

Both are expected to appear in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles as the case moves forward.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing as part of broader efforts to crack down on healthcare fraud schemes involving federal insurance programs.
