A quiet Sunday morning on Ventura’s Westside turned into a death investigation after a body was discovered on the grounds of Sheridan Way Elementary School.
Ventura Police were dispatched to the campus around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 3, following reports of an unresponsive person near a mural on the school grounds.
Upon arrival, officers confirmed that an adult had passed away.
While the discovery of a body at a K-5 school is deeply unsettling for the community, the scene was quickly cordoned off with privacy gates and crime scene tape, but was cleared within approximately an hour.
The case has been handed over to the Ventura County Medical Examiner to determine the exact cause of death.
Because the incident occurred over the weekend, no students were present at the time.
While some local reports suggest a possible overdose, authorities have not officially confirmed the identity of the individual or the circumstances surrounding the death.
This is a developing story.
