Pop icon Britney Spears has officially resolved her recent legal troubles in Ventura County. During an arraignment on Monday, May 4, 2026, an attorney for the 44-year-old superstar entered a guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving, commonly referred to as a "wet reckless"following her DUI arrest in March.

Spears, who did not appear in person for the hearing, was sentenced to one day in jail, which the court considered already served during her initial processing. As part of the plea agreement offered by the Ventura County District Attorney, she must also complete a three-month alcohol education program, attend weekly sessions with a psychologist, and meet twice monthly with a psychiatrist. Additionally, Spears was ordered to pay a $571 fine and must submit to chemical testing at any time upon request by law enforcement.

The charges followed a March 4 incident where the California Highway Patrol responded to reports of an erratic driver swerving across the 101 Freeway in Westlake Village. Spears was arrested on suspicion of driving under the combined influence of alcohol and at least one drug.

Following the arrest, Spears voluntarily checked herself into a residential treatment facility. Over the past weekend, she was reportedly spotted leaving the facility, signaling a transition in her recovery process. Her management team previously described the incident as "unfortunate and inexcusable," emphasizing that this legal resolution is a critical step toward long-overdue stability in her personal life.

This is not Spears' first brush with traffic enforcement in the 805; in late 2023, she was pulled over twice in a single month for speeding and crossing double yellow lines. However, legal experts note that her compliance with the current court-ordered psychiatric care and testing indicates a serious commitment to her well-being.

In recent weeks, Spears has taken to social media to share photos with her sons and express gratitude for the public’s ongoing support during her recovery.
