What began as a standard enforcement action on Highway 101 ended with nearly a kilogram of dangerous narcotics being pulled off the streets of Ventura County.

Over the weekend of May 9–10, 2026, deputies from the Camarillo Police Department, which operates under the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, successfully intercepted a significant quantity of methamphetamine and cocaine during a proactive traffic stop.

According to a social media update from the department, the stop occurred on the northbound side of Highway 101 at the Springville Drive off-ramp.

While the initial reason for the stop was not immediately disclosed, the subsequent investigation led to a massive find: approximately 909 grams of methamphetamine and 3 grams of cocaine.

To put the seizure into perspective, 909 grams is just under one kilogram, or roughly two pounds of methamphetamine. In the world of narcotics enforcement, this quantity is rarely considered for personal use; it represents thousands of individual doses and carries a significant street value.

  • The Methamphetamine: At approximately 909 grams, this haul could have a street value ranging from $15,000 to over $30,000, depending on purity and how it is broken down for local sale.
  • The Cocaine: While the 3 grams of cocaine found alongside the meth is a smaller amount, it indicates a multi-drug distribution effort.

The suspect, whose identity is being withheld pending formal charging in Ventura County Superior Court, was arrested on the spot for felony narcotics sales. The department credited the sharp eyes of the deputies for "helping keep dangerous narcotics out of our community."

The Highway 101 corridor, specifically the stretch through Camarillo and the Oxnard Plain, remains a primary artery for narcotics trafficking between Los Angeles and the Central Coast. By targeting transit points like the Springville Drive interchange, local law enforcement aims to disrupt the flow of synthetic drugs before they reach the local neighborhoods of Camarillo and neighboring Oxnard.

This bust comes amidst a heightened period of narcotics activity in the 805. Just weeks ago, Ventura County detectives dismantled a separate vehicle theft and narcotics crew operating across county lines. Proactive stops like the one this weekend are part of a broader strategy by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Bureau to utilize patrol deputies as a first line of defense against large-scale suppliers.

Under California Health and Safety Code 11378, possession for sale of methamphetamine is a felony that can lead to significant state prison time, especially when the quantity exceeds one kilogram. While this haul fell just shy of that specific weight-enhancement threshold, the sheer volume of the 909 grams will likely lead the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office to seek a stiff sentence.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned later this week. Investigators are currently working to determine the origin of the narcotics and whether the individual is part of a larger drug trafficking organization (DTO) operating within the region.
