A violent two-vehicle collision in Big Bear Lake has left a local Oxnard man behind bars and a community in mourning.
On Monday morning, May 4, 2026, Matthew Clark, 52, of Oxnard, was allegedly behind the wheel of a white Ford Super Duty pickup when he caused a devastating wreck at the intersection of Big Bear Boulevard and Cienega Road.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials report that Clark was traveling southbound around 10:30 a.m. when he blew through a posted stop sign, broadsiding a Subaru Crosstrek. The sheer force of the impact was lethal. One passenger in the Subaru died instantly at the scene, while a second passenger succumbed to their injuries later at Desert Regional Medical Center.
The driver of the Subaru is currently clinging to life in critical condition at Loma Linda University Medical Center.
Clark walked away with only minor injuries, but his legal troubles are just beginning. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and is being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $250,000 bail.
