YouTube is officially testing the patience of its viewers. Since around April 7, 2026, a wave of outrage has flooded the internet as users report a nightmare scenario on their smart TVs: unskippable ads that last a staggering 90 seconds or more.

A viral post from Dexerto showcased a screenshot that has sent shockwaves through the community. The image displays a dreaded countdown timer stating "Skip in 86" inside a yellow circle.

For a platform that built its empire on quick, bite-sized content, forcing a minute and a half of commercials before a video even starts feels like a return to the dark ages of cable television.

The backlash on social media has been swift and brutal. Users on the r/YouTube subreddit are calling the move "blasphemy," while others joke that the platform is essentially becoming the very thing it was designed to replace.

Many suspect this is a high-pressure tactic to force more users into a YouTube Premium subscription. If you want the ads gone, you have to pay the toll.

Interestingly, TeamYouTube has officially entered the chat. The support account claimed that they do not have a 90-second non-skippable format and are not currently testing one.

This has left users wondering if they are caught in a "glitch" or a secret rollout. Whether it is a bug or a feature, the message from the public is clear: a minute and a half of your life is a high price to pay for a cat video.
