The fatal incident occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. at the Gilmore Station shopping plaza near the bustling intersection of 3rd Street and Fairfax Avenue, directly across the street from The Grove shopping complex.

According to preliminary statement logs from the Los Angeles Fire Department, dispatchers received frantic emergency calls reporting an automobile plunging into a pedestrian walkway in a crowded commercial hub.
