OXNARD, Calif. — A high-visibility directed enforcement sweep led to the arrest of a 17-year-old youth armed with a loaded stolen shotgun early Sunday morning in a residential Oxnard neighborhood, public safety officials announced.
The incident occurred on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at approximately 12:48 a.m. in the 500 block of North Roosevelt Avenue.
According to an official media release published by the Oxnard Police Department, officers assigned to the Patrol Division were actively conducting proactive enforcement patrols in the neighborhood to deter criminal activity and prevent violent crime.
Directed Enforcement Contact and Rapid Disarming
While canvassing the 500 block of North Roosevelt Avenue, patrol officers encountered a 17-year-old male resident who was actively carrying a loaded firearm in public view.
Recognizing the immediate hazard, responding officers engaged the juvenile and moved quickly to secure the firearm. The suspect resisted officers' commands during the encounter, but patrol officers safely disarmed the youth and took him into custody without further incident.
During the post-arrest field investigation, officers ran a serial number query through state and national law enforcement databases, confirming that the loaded shotgun had previously been reported stolen from a private owner.
Due to his age, the minor's identity is being withheld by law enforcement in accordance with state juvenile privacy statutes. The juvenile was transported to juvenile hall and booked on multiple charges:
- Possession of a stolen firearm
- Minor in possession of a concealable/loaded firearm
- Carrying a loaded firearm in a public space
- Resisting, delaying, or obstructing a peace officer
"On the above date and time, officers from the Oxnard Police Department conducted a directed patrol in the 500 block of N. Roosevelt Ave. As the officers were conducting their patrol, they came into contact with a 17-year-old male in possession of a loaded shotgun," the Oxnard Police Department detailed in an official briefing prepared by Commander Jaime Miranda.
"The officers were able to quickly disarm the juvenile and take him into custody. The firearm was determined to have been reported stolen. The juvenile was arrested for several firearms-related charges as well as resisting arrest," police officials added.
