Australian Parents Charged With Manslaughter After 3-Year-Old Dies Following Crash

QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA — The parents of a 3-year-old boy who died after being brought to a police station with severe injuries following a car crash have been arrested and charged in connection with his death.

Authorities allege the child, Caden Case, was injured after a vehicle crashed into bushland in Stapylton around 5 a.m. on October 25. Despite officers performing CPR at Beenleigh Police Station, the toddler could not be revived.

Following a months-long investigation, police determined the child’s mother had been behind the wheel at the time of the crash.

The Crash: Early Morning Collision

According to Queensland Police Service, the incident unfolded in the early morning hours when a vehicle carrying the parents and their toddler left the roadway and crashed into bushland.

  • Police allege the mother, then 22, was driving.
  • The father, then 24, was also inside the vehicle.
  • A witness transported the injured child and mother to the police station.
  • Officers attempted CPR but were unable to save the child.

The crash location was in Stapylton, south of Brisbane.

The Investigation: Months of Forensic Review

Detective Acting Inspector Kent Ellis said the breakthrough came after extensive forensic and mechanical analysis.

Investigators conducted:

  • CCTV review and digital intelligence analysis.
  • Mechanical examination of the vehicle.
  • Physical evidence reconstruction.

“As a result of that work, police were able to determine the then-22-year-old woman was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash,” Ellis told reporters.

Additional Allegations

Police further allege that after the crash:

  • The father fled the scene with a 1-year-old child, who was uninjured.
  • The child was later located at a nearby address.
  • The father was taken into custody for related offenses.

Both parents now face serious charges.

The Charges

Authorities have charged the mother with:

  • Manslaughter (domestic violence offense against a child).
  • Trafficking in dangerous drugs.
  • Driving without a license.
  • Possessing items used in the commission of a crime.

The father, who has been in custody since October, has been charged with:

  • Manslaughter (domestic violence offense against a child).
  • Trafficking in dangerous drugs.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Police Statement

Detective Ellis described the case as deeply traumatic for first responders.

“Attending traffic crashes are traumatic at the best of times for attending police and first responders, but even more so when it involves a child,” he said.

Authorities say the child’s extended family continues to receive support.

What Comes Next

Both parents are expected to face court proceedings in Queensland.

  • Police say further investigative steps are underway.
  • No additional details have been released.
  • Authorities continue to examine all evidence surrounding the crash.

The case remains active as legal proceedings move forward.
