Canadian National Charged with Felony Animal Cruelty Following Las Vegas Flamingo Attack

Mitchell Fairbarn, a 33-year-old Canadian citizen, is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly abducting and assaulting a flamingo at a prominent Las Vegas resort earlier this month.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on March 3, 2026, when Fairbarn reportedly breached the security of the bird habitat located at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino.

Authorities state that Fairbarn chased several birds within the protected area before physically seizing a 27-year-old flamingo known to staff and visitors as Peachy.

Surveillance footage and witness statements indicate the suspect then carried the bird through the hotel premises and into his private guest room.

Once inside the room, Fairbarn is accused of choking the animal and repeatedly slamming it against the floor in a violent manner.

Law enforcement officials who investigated the scene reported finding significant evidence of the struggle, including blood and feathers scattered throughout the guest room.

The victim, Peachy, has been a long-time resident of the Flamingo Hotel and Casino bird habitat, having lived safely in the environment for nearly three decades.

Veterinary staff have confirmed that while the flamingo sustained serious injuries during the ordeal, the bird is expected to make a full recovery.

Peachy has since been returned to the hotel habitat, where the bird is being closely monitored by wildlife specialists.

Fairbarn has been formally charged with four felony counts of animal cruelty in connection with the March 3 incident.

Following his arrest, the suspect posted bail and is legally required to remain within the Las Vegas area until his legal proceedings conclude.

A court hearing has been scheduled for May 6, 2026, where Fairbarn will appear to answer the charges brought against him.

The incident has prompted discussions regarding security protocols at hotel wildlife habitats along the Las Vegas Strip.

Resort management has not yet issued a statement regarding potential upgrades to the habitat’s security following the unauthorized entry.

The case remains under active investigation by local law enforcement agencies as they finalize evidence for the upcoming May proceedings.
