A 17-year-old boy faces murder charges after police say he threw 4-month-old Troy May Elaine Cohn to the floor at a Claremont home.
LEDE
When we hand our children over to professionals, we expect them to come home safe. That trust was shattered for one family on a Tuesday morning in June.
WHAT HAPPENED
On June 29, police rushed to a home on the 1400 block of Lynoak Drive in Claremont. It was around 11:30 a.m. when they got a call about a medical emergency.
Officers found that a 17-year-old boy had thrown four-month-old Troy May Elaine Cohn to the floor. The baby had severe injuries, including a fractured skull and bruises. She died later at the Children's Hospital of Orange County.
The teen suspect has autism. He was arrested at the scene and faces a murder charge. The baby's parents, Jasmyne Cohn and Anthony Owens, say the daycare left their baby alone with the teen. The daycare owner has not yet made a public statement.

The baby’s parents are calling for the state to shut down the daycare permanently.
WHAT WE STILL DON'T KNOW
- Why was a 17-year-old at a daycare meant only for young children?
- Was the teen left alone with the baby, and where were the workers?
- Will the state or local police file charges against the daycare owner?
