He built a massive online following preaching physical perfection. Then he was found dead in a lake, leaving a beautiful home covered in black tar.
YouTube star Connor Murphy died at age 32 in Thailand, leaving a $658,000 rental home smeared with paint and filled with syringes.
When we follow people online, we think we know them through their clean and perfect feeds. But behind the screen, a quiet struggle can end in a sudden and messy tragedy.
WHAT HAPPENED
Connor Murphy was a 32-year-old Texas fitness star with 2.36 million fans on YouTube. On Tuesday, rescuers pulled his body from a 32-foot-deep lake in Thailand. Before he died, witnesses saw him yell at a guard, roll on the dirt, and run from the police.
Soon after, photos showed the inside of his $1,046-a-month rental home. The walls and kitchen of the once-beautiful house were covered in gray paint and a sticky black substance. Syringes and unapproved pills sat near the trash and sink.
His 22-year-old girlfriend, Bee, told police she was asleep when the house was trashed. She said she never saw him use drugs. Police are waiting on drug tests to find out what caused his death and strange actions.

WHY IT MATTERS
This tragedy shows the dark side of online fame and the "looksmaxxing" trend, where young men obsess over their faces and bodies. Online stars often face huge pressure to look perfect while dealing with mental health struggles in private.
It also shows how fast a person's life can spiral away from the bright image they show to millions of fans online.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Police in Thailand are waiting for drug test results to see what was in his system. The U.S. Embassy has been notified to help his family with the next steps.
The homeowner, Ms. View, must now clean up and repair the ruined $658,000 property.
WHAT WE STILL DON'T KNOW
- What was the black and gray substance smeared all over the walls and kitchen?
- Did Connor Murphy use the unapproved pills or the syringes found in his car?
- Was his final, strange video a real cry for help or just an act as his page claimed?
