SIMI VALLEY, Calif. — What began as an attempt to retrieve a crashed drone turned into a high-risk police response Tuesday evening after a homeowner allegedly drew a handgun and threatened to shoot a visitor, leading to an arrest and the seizure of multiple firearms, public safety officials announced.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at approximately 7:48 p.m. at a residential property in the 6400 block of Keystone Street in Simi Valley.
According to an official agency notification issued by the Simi Valley Police Department, emergency dispatchers received an urgent 911 call reporting an active weapon incident in progress outside a neighborhood home.
Escalation Over Crashed Property and Handgun Threat
The reporting victim explained to dispatchers that he had arrived at the Keystone Street address to retrieve a personal drone that the homeowner had previously crashed.
While standing in the driveway to pick up the device, a verbal argument broke out between the victim and the resident. As the dispute escalated, the homeowner allegedly reached into his waistband, pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun, and pointed it directly at the victim.
The suspect explicitly warned the visitor that if he did not leave the property immediately, he would be shot. The victim retreated safely and contacted law enforcement.
Patrol officers arrived at the residential scene shortly after the call and immediately established a tactical perimeter, detaining the 44-year-old male resident without further physical confrontation.
Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO) and Arsenal Recovery
Following an initial field investigation and suspect interview, officers placed the resident under arrest on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
To protect public safety and prevent further violent escalation, officers immediately requested and obtained an emergency Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO) through the Ventura County Superior Court system.
Armed with the court-ordered GVRO authorization, officers searched the residence and recovered a substantial firearm stockpile:
- Four Rifles: Various long-gun platforms seized for safekeeping.
- Three Handguns: Including the semi-automatic pistol allegedly pointed during the driveway confrontation.
- Bulk Ammunition: A large quantity of loose and boxed ammunition seized from the home.
The suspect was transported to police headquarters for processing before being booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura.
"On August 25, 2026, at 7:48 PM, Simi Valley Police Officers were dispatched to the 6400 Block of Keystone Street for a report of a weapon incident in progress... The victim stated that he was at the address to pick up a drone that the suspect had crashed and that during the pick-up an argument ensued," the Simi Valley Police Department detailed in its official advisory.
"As the argument escalated the suspect pulled what was described as a black semi-automatic handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the victim... After an initial investigation, the suspect was placed under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon and a Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO) was obtained. Per the GVRO, Officers were able to recover 4 rifles, 3 handguns and a large amount of ammunition," police officials added.
