Inside the luxury residence, investigators discovered a massive fentanyl distribution hub, a gold-plated handgun, and a live alligator living in a small tank.
The raid, which took place in a building where rent can exceed $3,000 a month, highlights the increasingly brazen and bizarre methods drug trafficking organizations use to operate in plain sight. Authorities allege the high-rise apartment was being used to store and distribute bulk quantities of deadly synthetic opioids right in the heart of the city.
WHAT HAPPENED
On September 10, 2026, federal law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at a luxury apartment in the Olympic + Hill building in downtown Los Angeles. According to court documents, the raid was the culmination of an ongoing investigation into a local fentanyl trafficking organization.
Inside the apartment, agents found a massive stash of narcotics and weapons. The seizure included:
- 42 kilograms (nearly 94 pounds) of fentanyl in both pill and powder form.
- Over 7 kilograms (about 16 pounds) of cocaine and approximately 2 pounds of heroin.
- A gold-plated Desert Eagle .50-caliber handgun sitting on the kitchen counter, along with an AR-15 rifle and ammunition found in a hallway closet.
- A live, small alligator kept in a tiny tank inside the apartment.
- Industrial drug-processing equipment, including laboratory beakers, mixers, stirrers, torches, and a hydraulic press.
During the search, a police K-9 searching for hidden drug compartments collapsed from apparent exposure to fentanyl. The dog had to be revived with Narcan, a life-saving opioid reversal medication, and is expected to recover.
Two residents of the apartment, Marvin Angelito, 27, and Susan Gonzalez, 26, were arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. During their initial court appearances, a federal magistrate judge ordered Angelito to remain detained without bail, while Gonzalez was released on a $15,000 bond. Neither has entered a plea.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service took custody of the alligator and removed it from the apartment. The animal is being relocated to a proper facility where it can receive appropriate care.
The legal case against the two residents is moving forward in federal court. Marvin Angelito is scheduled to be formally arraigned on October 2, 2026, followed by Susan Gonzalez's arraignment on October 9, 2026. Both defendants face a statutory maximum penalty of life in federal prison if they are convicted of the charges. The prosecution is being handled by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California.
