CAMARILLO, Calif. — Shelter volunteers and staff at Ventura County Animal Services (VCAS) are calling on local pet lovers to meet Monty, a 4-year-old Siberian Husky who has been waiting for his adoptive family since June 2026.
Monty is currently housed at Kennel 520 inside the Camarillo Animal Shelter, located at 600 Aviation Drive near the Camarillo Airport.

Originally brought to the shelter as a stray from Simi Valley on June 18, 2026, Monty became officially available for adoption on June 23, 2026.
Despite participating in off-site community adoption events—including a recent showcase at Petco—the 60-pound neutered male has yet to find his permanent home.
Friendly Temperament and Volunteer Favorite
According to updates shared by VCAS shelter staff and volunteers, Monty has established himself as a social, highly affectionate dog who brightens the days of handlers and visitors alike.
Volunteers describe Monty as exceptionally friendly toward people and open to co-existing with secondary canine companions, making him a candidate for multi-pet households pending a standard meet-and-greet session.
The shelter environment can be challenging for high-energy working breeds like Siberian Huskies, making community visibility and social media sharing vital to finding suitable adopters.
"Seeing Monty was the highlight of my day yesterday," shared VCAS volunteer Avery in an official shelter spotlight feature."4 year old Monty has been very friendly with people and is open to a doggie sibling too. He recently attended a Petco adoption event, but hasn't met his people yet! Adoptable at 600 Aviation Drive, Camarillo CA. Adoption fees waived!" VCAS representatives added.
Siberian Huskies are known for their striking appearance, intelligence, and athletic endurance. Prospective adopters are encouraged to consider the specific care and lifestyle needs of the breed:
- Exercise Requirements: High energy level requiring daily active walks, play sessions, or backyard activities.
- Coat Care: Double coat requires regular brushing, especially during seasonal shedding cycles.
- Containment: Huskies are skilled jumpers and runners; secure yards with tall fencing are highly recommended.
- Social Nature: Generally pack-oriented dogs that thrive on human companionship and positive reinforcement training.
Waived Adoption Fees and Shelter Location Details
To help place shelter pets into loving homes and maintain available kennel space, Ventura County Animal Services is waiving adoption fees for dogs.
While adoption fees are waived, standard spay/neuter surgery, initial vaccinations, microchipping, and flea treatment are included. A nominal county license fee may apply for residents within VCAS municipal jurisdictions.
