You can buy Homelander's actual suit from The Boys, but the actor warns it smells
Bids for the costume are already at $17,000, but a fake bid for $310 million almost broke the internet.
We love to worship our TV heroes. But we often forget they are played by real, sweating human beings.
An auction house called Propstore is selling more than 450 props and outfits from the hit show The Boys. The biggest item is the blue and red suit worn by the main villain, Homelander.
Bidding for the outfit has already reached $17,000. But the sale got messy when internet trolls made fake bids that went up to $310,010,000.
Those giant bids were fake. The auction site took them down quickly, and the real sale will run until June 30, 2026.
What the money shows
- $17,000: The current real bid for the Homelander costume.
- 450: The number of props and outfits from the show up for sale.
- $310,010,000: The fake bid that went viral on social media.
- June 30, 2026: The final day for fans to place their bids.
The Bigger Question
Why do we pay so much to own things that actors wore? We want a piece of the magic, but we often forget the hard work and long hours that go into making these shows.
The Other Side
Actor Antony Starr, who plays Homelander, had a funny warning for the buyer. He posted on Instagram that the suit will smell bad because he wore it for years. This claim seems very likely to be true because of the hot stage lights.
What Happens Now
The real bids will keep going up. The good news is that Sony Pictures Television is giving some of the cash to healthcare programs for poor groups in Los Angeles.
What We Still Don't Know
- How much will the suit actually sell for when the auction ends?
- Who was behind the fake bid of $310 million?
- Will the winning buyer try to wash the suit, or keep it dirty?
