Illinois Couple Arrested After Vandalizing GOP Headquarters with Nazi Symbols and Feces

Arlington Heights police have arrested an elderly couple in connection with a January vandalism incident at a local Republican Party headquarters. Brock McNerney, 72, and Moisette McNerney, 69, were taken into custody Monday following a two-month investigation into the defacement of the Republicans of Wheeling Township office.
Authorities announced the charges late Tuesday, confirming that both individuals face two misdemeanor counts of criminal damage to property and criminal defacement of property. The couple was identified after police reviewed surveillance footage and received numerous tips from the local community throughout the investigation.
The incident occurred on the night of January 25 at the office located on East Rand Road. According to investigators, the suspects used permanent markers to scrawl swastikas and profanities across the building's front windows, creating a scene that local party officials described as profoundly hurtful.
Police reports also indicate that the perpetrators smeared feces and poured an unknown liquid near the entrance of the facility. Among the property damaged was a portrait of the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, which was specifically targeted with symbols and derogatory language by the suspects.
This arrest follows a series of security concerns for the Wheeling Township GOP. The office was reportedly the target of a similar act of vandalism in late December, which prompted the installation of the surveillance system that eventually captured the January incident in high detail.
The story gained significant traction on social media after booking photos were shared by the popular account LibsOfTikTok. The post has garnered tens of thousands of views, sparking a widespread debate among users regarding the nature of the charges and the current political climate.
While some observers have called for the case to be prosecuted as a hate crime due to the use of Nazi imagery, officials have proceeded with misdemeanor charges. The suspects were released from custody and are currently awaiting their initial court appearance in Cook County.
Under the administration of President Donald Trump, law enforcement agencies have remained vigilant regarding reports of political property damage and harassment. The Arlington Heights Police Department expressed gratitude to the public for the assistance that led to the successful identification of the suspects.
