A ruthless Lancaster predator faces nearly half a century behind bars after a Ventura County jury found him guilty of running a violent human trafficking ring disguised as a romance.
Twenty-five-year-old Jalen Amir Yoakum was convicted on multiple heavy felonies including human trafficking for sexual exploitation, pimping, pandering, domestic violence, and witness intimidation.

Yoakum met his young victim on Instagram in July 2024. He played the role of a caring boyfriend before aggressively switching up once they moved in together.
He completely isolated the victim from her friends and family. He repeatedly choked and assaulted her while forcing her into commercial sex work against her will.
Yoakum took her photographs, posted online advertisements, negotiated with buyers, and pocketed nearly 100% of the cash. He punished her with brutal physical violence if appointments went long or if she resisted.
His depraved enterprise crashed down in January 2025 during a trip to Camarillo. After beating the victim and leaving visible facial injuries, Yoakum dropped her off for an appointment, stole her car, and took off.
His reckless getaway triggered a chaotic, high-speed police pursuit through Camarillo. The chase ended in a violent car wreck that severely injured an innocent driver.
While cops were locking him up for the crash, the victim courageously exposed the sex trafficking ring to officers. Detectives then executed search warrants to pull down location data and texts that sealed his conviction.
**THE QUICK BREAKDOWN
- The Conviction: Jalen Amir Yoakum was found guilty of felony human trafficking, pimping, pandering, witness intimidation, and domestic abuse.
- The Operation: Yoakum groomed his victim on Instagram, isolated her, and violently forced her into commercial sex while stealing all her earnings.
- The Aggravating Factors: The jury found multiple special allegations to be true, noting Yoakum’s prior strike conviction and extreme violence.
- The Next Trial: Yoakum is still facing a separate July 2026 trial for the violent high-speed pursuit that seriously injured an innocent commuter.
- The Hammer: Yoakum is held without bail and faces a maximum of 46 years in state prison at his upcoming July 21, 2026 sentencing.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Rikole Kelly hit the nail on the head: human trafficking in the modern era doesn't always involve iron bars or padlocks.
Instead, it thrives on psychological isolation, financial control, and the constant threat of a beating.
Yoakum weaponized a relationship to completely strip an innocent woman of her autonomy, treating her like a piece of property to bankroll his life. It is a miracle his victim found the immense bravery to speak out to law enforcement after surviving his abuse and witnessing him total her car.
Because of her courage, this serial abuser is completely out of chances. The county needs to ensure he gets hammered with the maximum sentence on July 21st, and then immediately goes on trial for the separate high-speed crash so he can be put away until he is an old man.
