Knicks fans celebrated a big win by destroying school buses in Times Square

A massive crowd packed the tourist hub and set at least one yellow bus completely on fire.

We all love a good win, but true love for a team should never turn into a threat to public safety. What was supposed to be a fun night of sports victory quickly turned into a dark scene of street damage.

New York Knicks fans took over Times Square to celebrate a major team win. The massive crowd quickly grew out of control in the busy party hub.

People in the crowd began to smash and tear apart several yellow school buses parked in the area.

One of those school buses was set on fire. It was left completely covered in bright flames in the middle of the street.

What the evidence shows

  • At least 1 school bus was completely engulfed in fire.
  • Multiple other school buses were smashed and torn apart.
  • The incident took place in a highly crowded Times Square.
  • No official injury numbers have been released yet.

The Bigger Question

Why does a sports win make people want to destroy their own city? We need to look at how a crowd mindset takes over during these massive street events.

Is there a safe way for cities to let fans celebrate without risking public safety and destroying property?

The Other Side

Some fans might argue that the crowd got too big too fast, and a few bad actors ruined the night for everyone else. But video evidence shows multiple people taking part in the attack on the buses.

What Happens Now

Local workers must clean up the heavy damage and find out who will pay for the ruined buses. Extra police will likely be in place for the next big game to keep the peace.

What We Still Don't Know

  1. How many people were arrested or hurt during the chaos?
  2. Who owns the school buses that were destroyed?
  3. What plans do city leaders have to prevent this from happening next time?
