Knox County Man Charged With Aggravated Arson Following Attempted House Fire

Authorities in Knox County, Tennessee, have arrested an individual in connection with an attempted arson at a residential property. Diego Julio Pedro faces charges of Aggravated Arson following an incident occurring in mid-March.

According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect is accused of attempting to set fire to a home while 11 individuals, including children, were inside. This specific charge reflects the severe danger posed to the occupants.

Surveillance video obtained by investigators reportedly shows a man carrying a container of ignitable liquid to the front porch of the residence. The footage captures the individual pouring the liquid, igniting it, and fleeing.

Although the fire was extinguished quickly and no injuries were reported, the charge remains aggravated arson due to the extreme risk to human life. Under Tennessee state law, a conviction can result in a prison sentence of up to 30 years.

Investigative reports suggest the motive behind the incident involves a personal dispute. The warrant cites a disagreement over a perceived money debt between Pedro and one of the residents of the home.

Following the arrest, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed an immigration detainer on the suspect. This federal hold requests that local authorities notify ICE before the individual is released.

This allows federal agents to evaluate the individual's status and potentially initiate deportation proceedings. The story became a subject of national interest after a viral post on social media highlighted the case.

The post included surveillance footage of the arson attempt and has prompted significant discussion regarding public safety and immigration policy. Public reactions online have focused on enforcement and the implications of the federal hold.

Local law enforcement confirmed that both the arrest and the detainer are official. The case is currently proceeding through the Knox County court system where the suspect awaits trial.

The Sheriff’s Office maintains that the investigation is active. Legal representatives for the accused have not yet released a public statement regarding the allegations or the immigration status mentioned in reports.
