Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass wanted an easy path to a second term. But her former ally, City Councilmember Nithya Raman, joined the race on the very last day.

The primary votes are almost all counted. Bass got the most votes but did not get enough to win the job outright.

Now, Bass and Raman will go head-to-head in a runoff election this November. Reality TV star Spencer Pratt finished third and is out of the race.
