A mother in an upscale California town turned her home into a dangerous party spot for high school students. She provided alcohol and condoms while teens had sex. Now she is heading to prison for decades.

WHAT HAPPENED

Shannon O’Connor hosted multiple parties at her Los Gatos home and vacation rentals during the 2020-2021 school year. Many of the teens who attended were just 14 and 15 years old, including her own son. She bought large amounts of alcohol for the minors, handed out condoms, and allowed and in some cases watched sexual activity between the underage kids. Some girls were so drunk they could not consent. Victims later described feeling trapped with “no escape.” A jury convicted O’Connor on 48 felony counts, along with child endangerment and furnishing alcohol to minors. On May 28, 2026, a Santa Clara County judge sentenced her to 35 years and 10 months in state prison. She will likely serve about 31 years after credit for time already spent in jail.

What the evidence shows

O’Connor hosted at least six large parties with heavy drinking and sex.

  • She actively supplied alcohol and condoms to minors.
  • Victims said girls were treated like sex objects at the parties.
  • The crimes took place in Los Gatos and at vacation rentals.
  • She told the court before sentencing: “I am ashamed” and “I am sorry for all of you.”

THE BIGGER QUESTION

This case happened in one of the wealthiest suburbs in Silicon Valley. A mother who was supposed to protect children instead created an environment where they were exploited. It raises serious questions about how such activity could continue for months without anyone stepping in sooner. Parents in the community are now asking how they missed the signs and what this says about trust in local families.THE OTHER SIDE O’Connor expressed remorse in court and said she is deeply sorry for the pain she caused the victims and their families. She has been in custody since 2021. Her defense team has not made additional public comments after the sentencing. She was convicted after a full trial.

WHAT HAPPENS NOW

O’Connor will be transferred to state prison to begin serving her long sentence. The victims and their families say they finally feel some sense of justice after years of waiting. The case has shaken the close-knit Los Gatos community, where many families knew O’Connor and her son. Local schools and parents are discussing better ways to monitor teen parties and alcohol access.

WHAT WE STILL DON'T KNOW

Exactly how many teens attended the parties over the school year.

  • Whether any other adults knew about or participated in the parties.
  • If O’Connor will file an appeal of her conviction or sentence.
