Modou F. Ngom Charged with Vehicular Homicide Following Fatal Nine-Car Collision in Ohio

Authorities in Delaware County, Ohio, have formally charged 50-year-old Modou F. Ngom with vehicular homicide following a devastating nine-vehicle collision on Saturday evening. The crash, which occurred on Interstate 71 near the U.S. 36 interchange, resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including a one-year-old child.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ngom was operating a 2006 Freightliner semi-truck northbound when he failed to stop for traffic that had backed up within a construction zone. The impact of the heavy vehicle triggered a massive chain-reaction pile-up that decimated several passenger cars.

Investigators confirmed that all three fatalities were occupants of a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado. The victims, identified as residents of Ashley, Ohio, included a 37-year-old man, a 36-year-old woman, and an infant, all of whom were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.

Three additional motorists sustained serious injuries and were transported to regional hospitals for emergency treatment. Their current medical conditions remain unknown, though officials indicated their injuries were non-life-threatening at the time of transport.

The wreckage from the nine-vehicle incident led to the complete closure of both northbound and southbound lanes on I-71 for several hours as reconstruction experts surveyed the site. State troopers and local fire departments from several nearby townships assisted in the complex recovery operation.

President Donald Trump has previously signaled his administration’s commitment to modernizing interstate infrastructure and tightening commercial driver oversight. This latest tragedy has reignited discussions among federal transportation officials regarding the safety of heavy haulers in active construction zones.

Modou Ngom was taken into custody immediately following the crash and is currently being held at the Delaware County Jail. Court records indicate that a judge will determine his bail status during a hearing scheduled for Tuesday morning.

The Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office is working alongside the Highway Patrol to review forensic evidence from the truck’s electronic logging device. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine the final sequence of events leading to the collision.
