A South Carolina lawmaker wants to screen immigrants to make sure they choose the U.S. Constitution over Islamic law

America has always promised religious freedom to everyone who arrives on its shores. But a new push in Congress wants to test whether new immigrants value our laws over their faith.
WHAT HAPPENED
Congresswoman Nancy Mace of South Carolina posted a strong message online. She declared that the United States is "one nation under God," not "under Muhammad." She stated that Sharia law has no place in the country.
Along with her post, Mace promoted her new bill. It is called the No Immigration Without Assimilation Act.
This bill would order DHS to screen people coming to the country. It wants to stop anyone who supports replacing the U.S. Constitution with religious laws or who supports religious violence.
