Netanyahu Urges International Allies to Join Conflict Following Alleged Iranian Missile Extension

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a call for international allies to join the conflict against Iran during a visit to the southern city of Arad on March 22, 2026.

The remarks, which were widely shared as viral summaries online, followed a series of overnight missile strikes on Arad and Dimona that reportedly injured over 160 people.

Netanyahu argued that Iran’s recent military actions demonstrate a threat that extends beyond the borders of Israel and into the European continent.

Central to his argument was an alleged Iranian missile launch targeting the joint United States-United Kingdom military base on Diego Garcia between March 20 and 21.

The Prime Minister stated that the use of intercontinental ballistic missiles with a 4,000-kilometer range proves Tehran can now reach major European capitals.

"They have now the capacity to reach deep into Europe," Netanyahu said, noting that Israel and the United States should not bear the burden of the conflict alone.

Netanyahu also cited recent missile fire toward Cyprus and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz as evidence of a global security crisis.

The conflict escalated on February 28, 2026, following joint operations aimed at Iranian nuclear and missile infrastructure.

In response, Iranian semi-official media described the long-range capabilities as a significant step forward in their defensive posture.

However, senior Iranian officials have officially denied responsibility for the Diego Garcia incident, maintaining that their missile range remains capped at 2,000 kilometers.

The United Kingdom has also expressed skepticism regarding the Israeli assessment of the immediate threat to European soil.

UK Housing Secretary Steve Reed stated in televised interviews that there is currently no substantiated assessment to confirm Iran is targeting or capable of targeting Europe.

While confirming the attempted strike on Diego Garcia, Reed characterized the action as reckless but emphasized that Britain is not seeking to join the wider war.

Public reaction to the Prime Minister’s statements remains polarized, with some international observers expressing concern over further escalation while others support increased coalition involvement.
