Newbury Park Man Arrested for Alleged Sex Trafficking of a Minor

A years-long investigation has led to the arrest of 51-year-old Carlos Reid in Newbury Park. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office took Reid into custody on January 26, 2026.
The case began in April 2023 when a victim reported being befriended by Reid in Agoura. Detectives allege that Reid groomed the victim over time to gain his trust.
According to investigators, Reid eventually coerced the minor into participating in various sexual acts. These incidents reportedly took place at locations in Thousand Oaks.
Reid is accused of recording these acts and posting them to online platforms. He allegedly distributed the footage across various social media sites for financial gain.
Thousand Oaks detectives secured search warrants for Reid’s digital accounts in December 2025. The evidence found linked him to charges of sodomy and possession of child pornography.
Reid was eventually located by patrol deputies at a local motel in Newbury Park. He was booked into the Pre-trial Detention Facility with bail set at $100,000.
Law enforcement officials believe there may be additional victims given the nature of the grooming. They are encouraging anyone with information to contact the Sexual Assault Unit.
Reid made his first court appearance in Ventura Superior Court on January 29. The investigation remains active as detectives review seized digital evidence.
