OAK PARK, Calif. — A 40-year-old Oak Park man remains behind bars on a $200,000 bond after allegedly launching a violent knife assault against his elderly stepfather inside their family residence, according to law enforcement authorities.
The suspect, identified as Chad Nelson, was taken into custody during the evening hours of Thursday, July 30, 2026, following a rapid law enforcement response to a residential neighborhood in Oak Park.
According to official investigative reports released by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, deputies assigned to Thousand Oaks Patrol Services responded to an urgent 911 call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon in progress at a home located in the 5900 block of East Sunny Vista Avenue at approximately 8:00 p.m.
Deputies Intervene During Active Knife Attack
The emergency call was placed by the suspect's elderly mother, who frantically alerted dispatchers that her adult son was actively attacking her husband with a knife inside the house.
Patrol deputies arrived at the residence within minutes. Upon making entry into the home, officers located Nelson standing directly over his 80-year-old stepfather, who was lying on the living room floor suffering from multiple bleeding wounds.

The victim sustained multiple non-life-threatening knife wounds during the struggle and was transported by ambulance to a local trauma hospital for emergency medical treatment and care.
"Deputies arrived quickly and upon entering the residence, deputies found the suspect, Chad Nelson, standing over his injured 80-year-old stepfather, who was lying on the living room floor bleeding from multiple injuries," the Ventura County Sheriff's Office detailed in an official public notification released by Detective Kenneth Ledesma.

Following their on-scene investigation, deputies transported Nelson to the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura, where he was formally booked on three severe felony counts:
