Ohio teacher pleads guilty to charges involving relationship with student

A former Ohio high school teacher has pleaded guilty to charges related to an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old student, according to court documents and local reports.
Jamelah Daboubi, 28, formerly a 10th-grade teacher at Horizon Science Academy in Columbus, admitted in February to charges including gross sexual imposition and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
According to prosecutors, the case began in April 2025 when Columbus police responded to a report from the student’s aunt, who is also his legal guardian.
Authorities said she discovered the teenager in a car with the teacher outside her home on the city’s northeast side.
During interviews with investigators, the student said he had a sexual relationship with Daboubi that included kissing and touching.
Prosecutors stated the teen also told police they had been “texting for a couple of months and engaging in sexual activity for a period of time.”
Police later seized the student’s phone and reported finding hundreds of calls and thousands of text messages between the two.
Some of the messages reportedly included declarations of “love,” according to statements cited by local outlet WBNS‑TV.
School officials confirmed Daboubi’s employment was terminated in April 2025 following the allegations.
Court records show the original charges included two counts of sexual battery, which were later amended.
As part of a plea agreement, the court recommended five years of community control supervision, mandatory counseling, community service, and the permanent revocation of her teaching license.
She will also be required to register as a sex offender. Sentencing could include up to 18 months in prison.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office and prosecutors have not publicly commented further on the case.
In a separate case, a Washington state teacher was arrested following allegations involving a 16-year-old student at Sprague High School.
Madeline Gregory, 29, is accused of sexual misconduct. Court documents state she told the student she was in a “sexless marriage,” while a witness allegedly told police she said she planned to divorce because she “won’t have sex with her husband.”
Washington law sets the age of consent at 16, but prohibits sexual relationships between school employees and students under their supervision.
The case remains under investigation, according to reporting by the Cheney Free Press.
